What’s your fidelity?

This activity gets right into the heart of the quantum computing race: gate fidelities. The game introduces gates, how they are performed, and why they are hard.

Each team has four Qubis and an app that starts and stops the pulse. The pulse causes a precession of the qubit states. The goal is to get the qubits from the bottom to the top using the pulse.

You realize you have to time the pulse perfectly to get the state to the top, which is exactly what a quantum computer does.

Each team gets a fixed amount of time to get as close to perfect as they can. All of their “fidelities” are summed and team scores compared to find the winner.

There’s also an opportunity to add extra variables for accuracy, such as a tunable pulse frequency, power, or noise.
